50th Reunion, August 9-12 2018

Thursday, August 9, 2018
7:00pm Social drop-in evening event.

Torrent Brewing Co, 504 Burnett Avenue. (formerly Mathiason Ford). This will be a casual gathering with food and beverages available for purchase. With the start of the Iowa State Fair, some of you may choose to arrive early and visit the fair before the reunion begins Also, the Ames Historical Society is featuring an exhibit about Ames High - "Ames Hi Aiming High Through the Years". They are extending this display so our class can experience it. Check out their website for details.

Friday, August 10, 2018
10:00am - 11:30am OR 1:00pm - 2:30pm  Bus tours of Ames with guide.

Kathy Svec and Beth Buchele from the Ames Historical Society will narrate these tours, which depart from Ames High. The tours are identical, and you will be amazed at the changes in Ames!

3:00pm - 8:00pm Picnic at Brookside Park.

Bring your own picnic lunch. Bottled water available at the park. We’ll be at the Maple Shelter at the south end of Brookside. Alcohol is allowed in Ames parks, but no kegs!

10:00am Tour of Ames High School

Led by Mr. Ripp. In April, city residents will be asked to vote on remodeling ($85 million/5 years), building a new facility ($95 million/3 years) or doing nothing.

11:00am - 5:00pm Family fun at Ada Hayden Park

(The old gravel pits in north Ames) – Jax Mercantile will have kayaks, canoes and paddle boats available to rent. Check their website for prices.

1:00pm - 4:00pm Creative Expo

A hugely popular idea we copied from the class of ‘66. You are invited to share your passion - anything from a performance to a hobby or craft. (Examples: singing, poetry, quilting, woodworking, traveling, collections, etc.) The showcase will be in the First United Methodist Fellowship Hall, 6th and Kellogg. Set up for participants starts at 11:00. The doors will be open to everyone from 1:00 - 4:00. 5:00pm - midnight Main event

Our banquet will be at a magical place on the Boone/Story county line called the Farmer’s Daughter. There will be good food, music from the 50’s and 60’s, a remembrance of lost classmates and a short program. Handicapped parking will be available if needed.

5:00p Happy hour

Wings with various sauces. shrimp cocktail, cheese/crackers, veggies/dip; cash bars.

6:00p Class picture
6:30p Dinner

Beef brisket, grilled chicken, baked beans, Iowa sweet corn on the cob, "Broiler" potatoes, garden salad and fresh fruit. Program and lovely desserts to follow, including s'mores by the fire pit.

10:00a Farewell brunch

To be held at the Cornucopia (formerly the Broiler), buffet style. 6008 Lincolnway, west Ames.

You are encouraged to submit a summary of what you’ve been doing for the last 50 years. Those bios which are submitted will be posted on this website in the near future. This site will remain open even after the reunion so you can access these bios.

Some things to consider including: name, spouse, children and grandchildren, education after AHS, career/s, military service, volunteer efforts, hobbies, travels, retirement plans. You may also want to share high school memories or reflections of growing up in Ames, And lastly, consider including some of your bucket list items.
